The free agent frenzy is pretty much over, and the Columbus Blue Jackets resigned (almost) all of their free agents. They were, however, notably quiet during free agency. They didn’t pick up any big players, but they did keep their young core of (hopefully) future stars.
We pretty much know what the lineup for the Jackets will look like come October, and I don’t see it changing much throughout the year. Maybe one or two moves close to the trade deadline, but even that seems unlikely. Given the low amount and disappointing results of trades made by the Jackets last year, I’d be willing to bet we don’t see too many, if any, trades happening this year.
Given the current lineup and lack of one true leader or star player, almost any player could end up leading the team this year. The good thing about not having a captain is that there’s a chance for everyone to contribute and make a name for themselves (but that’s a conversation for another day, which you can find here.) There are lots of contenders for the team leader this upcoming year, and as we slowly reach toward October, it’s fun to speculate. With that, who do you think will be the Jackets MVP this year? Which player are you looking forward to seeing, and who do you think will stand out on the team? I picked five players here in the poll, so you can vote for one of them, or if there’s someone else you think will take the cake, leave a comment and let me know! (I put Johansen in here because I’m optimistic they’ll get a deal done. Maybe too optimistic, but we’ll see.)
