The start to NHL free agency was not very spectacular for the Columbus Blue Jackets and their fans this year. There were no big signings like last year, but no heartbreaking losses either. They did lose a few players, and trade for some new ones as well. With that said, here are the fan reactions we received from Twitter:
@UnionandBlue I feel like leaving room for our young players to grow and take on more prominent roles is going to pay off big in the end

@UnionandBlue I think day 1 was a safe day for the CBJ. Nothing flashy or unexpected. Besides Skille being traded it was a vanilla day.

@UnionandBlue They were all low risk moves. Gives the youngins in development camp the chance to make a case for a possible spot on the team

The ongoing theme among the fans is that this is a chance for the young players to step it up within the franchise, and for the management to see just how much depth their club really has. Although there could still be some deals that haven’t happened yet, it seems like this year’s free agency will be more about out with the old than in with the new, and that seems to be a good strategy for GM Jarmo Kekalainen and his club.
@UnionandBlue shows confidence in depth
