It has been less than 24 hours since the news of the R.J. Umberger for Scott Hartnell trade broke, and already Hartnell has created a reputation in Columbus. He had a reputation in Philly for being quite the character, and Columbus Blue Jackets fans got a taste of that in the last day. His amusing, exciting and sometimes questionable quotes have been leaving Jackets fans laughing, talking, and tweeting. With that, here are the best Scott Hartnell quotes on joining the Jackets:
Hartnell to CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen after asking if the Jackets are committed to winning: “I’m 32 years old, I have a lot of money, but I want to win.” (from Puck Daddy)
On the Jackets’ playoff chances: “I was watching the Pittsburgh and Columbus series, and they had just as much a chance to win that series as Pittsburgh did,” said Hartnell. “That’s a great feeling for the team. They’re not just happy to make it there. They want to win.” (from Puck Daddy)
Columbus is where he should be: “It was pretty clear that a team that wants you is a better place than a team that doesn’t want you.” (from Philly.com)
He wants to be here: “I don’t think it will take long for me to get used to wearing Blue Jackets’ colors and getting out there playing for our jersey. I’m just really, really excited.” (from NJ.com)
Jeff Carter Reference? “I’m not gonna sit here for the next two months and mope around.” (from Puck Daddy)Lastly, the best quote that now has its very own hashtag in Columbus, Hartnell on playing the Jackets last year: “I think they beat us more than we beat them last year and it was always a tough game. You were always getting checked, always getting hit. … I was like, ‘Geez, who are all these little turds running around?’” (from NJ.com)
It certainly seems like Hartnell is excited to be playing for the Jackets, and he really wants to be here. What do you think of Hartnell’s quotes and attitudes since the trade? Are you excited to have him? Leave us a comment and let us know!
