The Columbus Blue Jackets selected Daniel Zaar as their 5th pick, 152nd pick overall at the 2012 NHL entry draft, and now they have made him part of their franchise. Zaar is the Jacket’s most recent draft pick to be signed to a contract after spending this past season in Sweden with Rogle. Zaar just turned 20, and is a 5’11” 167 lb right wing. He will now join other Jackets forward prospects at Columbus’ development camp later this summer, and will spend the next three seasons either with the Springfield Falcons or the Blue Jackets.
In signing Zaar, the Blue Jackets franchise is adding even more depth up front. With the recent signings of 2013 draft picks center Alexander Wennberg and left wing Kerby Rychel, the Jackets now have a full forward line of draft picks from the last two years. All of them have outstanding statistics in their minor league play, and now the Jackets and Falcons hope they will bring the same talent to their franchise.
Here are the regular season stats for the three draft picks the Jackets have signed recently:
|Daniel Zaar (RW)||52||16||20||36||28||-5|
|Alexander Wennberg (C)||50||16||5||21||8||-5|
|Kerby Rychel (LW)||58||34||56||90||43||41|
Granted these three players all play in different leagues, but if they were to play together on the same line, they managed a combined 66 goals and 81 assits for 147 points in one season. They averaged about 53 games played this season, meaning their line would have averaged 2.77 points per game. Those are impressive stats. These three players on the same line would be something to look out for.As the Jackets franchise keeps growing and building off of the best year in team history, these three draft picks will be players to keep your eye on. They will be at development camp this summer, and, if they succeed, they might join the Jackets in the NHL this season. If not this year, I think it’s fair to say we’ll see these three in the NHL soon enough.
