It’s that time again. Do or die. Some fans love it, some fans hate it, but it’s here. Tonight the Columbus Blue Jackets face the Phoenix Coyotes in their last home game of the season. It’s a big one, with the Jackets currently only in the final Wild Card spot in the East. Though the competition has backed down a bit, the Jackets could still use two more points in the race to the post-season.
Once again, the Jackets find themselves just two points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for the final Metropolitan Division playoff spot. This was the case on Sunday, and the Jackets did manage to pick up two points that night, but so did the Flyers. Tonight is a new night, with a chance to catch Philly again. The Flyers play the Panthers tonight, so you know who I’ll be rooting for!
Tonight is the critical first game of the week for the Jackets. This is the last week of the regular season, and due to the delayed game against the Dallas Stars that has been rescheduled for tomorrow, the Jackets will finish it off with four games in five nights. This is the only game in which fatigue cannot be an excuse, and the only game on home ice. Simply put, it is the best opportunity for the Jackets to get two points this week, other than possibly tomorrow’s game, which they will go into already ahead by one. More on that tomorrow.
As for injuries, the Jackets will be without R.J. Umberger tonight, as he suffered an injury in the game on Sunday. On the bright side, Nathan Horton is expected to make his return (again) tonight. Trading forwards it seems. Hopefully they can battle through injury and grab the all-important two points tonight. Go Jackets!
