The Columbus Blue Jackets came in to today’s matinée with games in hand on almost every team that sat ahead of them in the Eastern Conference standings, and I can imagine a bad taste in their mouth after Friday’s loss to the New York Rangers. I thought they would come out and jump on a New York Islanders team that has all but given up hope of making it to the postseason this year. What the fans got was another loss, another game where the offense looked as if it has gone into hibernation, and a bad taste left in our mouths.

Today’s game was huge, for points, postseason positioning, getting back on the right track, and the Columbus Blue Jackets let it slip through their fingers. Nothing about the Blue Jackets looked good today, they are starting to slip offensively and on the power play at the wrong time of the season. Now there is still time left, and as much as fans and Blue Jacket personnel will say just getting in the playoffs is what it is all about, not having to play the Boston Bruins or Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round would be nice.

Now I fear the Blue Jackets are going to mess around and miss the playoffs all together, which would be a punch to the gut for fans and everybody associated with the organization. That is just what will happen, if the Columbus Blue Jackets can’t get the ship righted and find some offensive punch, or find the groove on the power play like they had earlier this season. I am supposed to give my 3 starts for the game, but no Columbus Blue Jacket would have made that list, and I refuse to put any opposing team’s players in my 3 stars.

Okay Blue Jacket fans, now take 3 deep breaths and relax, there are 11 games left for this team to make the appropriate steps to turn it around. So let’s calm down and not all jump ship at once, that is until we see what they have to offer us on Tuesday.
