The Olympics are over and everyone has a plan for their team to make the playoffs. Well, here’s mine. It’s my opinion, like it or not, but the numbers work. You hear alot about a 3-year plan, a 5-year plan, etc. Well, I have a 2-week plan that will guarantee the Blue Jackets a playoff berth if they follow it to a tee.
The Blue Jackets currently sit in 9th place in the Eastern Division with 63 points. Now, to reach the playoff I believe they need to end the season with at least a total of 95 points. Anything more than that is a higher seed, which is always a good thing. Here’s how they do it.
The first 2-week period is Feb 27th through March 15th. Actually 18 days, but we’ll call it a 2 week period for this excercise. Now, in this period the Blue Jackets will play 10 games, with 2 back-to-back nights. A total of 20 points are up for the taking. My math says that if the Jackets can get 14 of the 20 points over this period, they’re well on their way to the playoffs. That being said, there are 4 points out of that 20 that will be very hard to get, whch are the 2nd game of each back-to-back series. Historically the Jackets dont perform well on the 2nd straight game, so I can’t really count those.
Of those 10 games in this period, only 4 are home games in Nationwide Arena. The Blue Jackets defend Nationwide very well, so there’s 8 out of the 14 points. Of the remaining 6 away games, I believe the Jackets have a great chance to defeat the New Jersey Devils tomorrow night, and also the Nashville Predators and the Minnesota Wild in enemy territory. Thats the 14 points in that 2-week period needed to keep the plan in place.
Part 2 of the 2-week plan coming up in a few days after the Jackets beat the Devils tonight.
