Ohio State

After a big win over Wisconsin back on January 25th that snapped a 4 game losing streak, Ohio State had a few days off to sort themselves out before a two game series against Penn State. The Buckeyes rode the momentum into the weekend series and ended up sweeping the Nittany Lions. Ryan Dzingel and Max McCormick had two goals each in Friday’s 5-1 win. The game was pretty much decided during the three goal second period. While Penn State got out to a two goal lead on Saturday, another three goal second period put Ohio State ahead. They went on to win 5-2.

Halfway through the season, Ohio State currently sits 4th (out of 6) in the Big 10 Conference with 13 points. They trail third place Wisconsin by 3 points.

Lake Erie Monsters

We have three games to recap for the Lake Erie Monsters. Lake Erie finally closed out a painful January with a 1-0 win on the road against the Charlotte Checkers. It was goaltender Calvin Pickard’s seventh shutout with the Monsters, which ties him for second on the franchise’s all time list. The Monsters started February off with a 5-3 loss at home to the Checkers. The Monsters came back in the third to tie the game at 3, but they could not hold on. The game ended Lake Erie’s 3 game point streak.

The Monsters responded to Saturday’s loss with a big 4-0 shutout win over the Grand Rapids Griffin’s last night in Grand Rapids. This time it was goaltender Sami Aittokallio with the shutout.

Toledo Walleye

Just three games to recap for the Toledo Walleye this week, two of which came against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Cincinnati won the first meeting 3-1, but Toledo was able to get some revenge on the road this past Tuesday when they beat the Cyclones 3-2. Between that was a 4-2 loss to the Elmira Jackals on Saturday

Cincinnati Cyclones

As we already detailed above, the Cyclones split their series with the Toledo Walleye. Much like Toledo, the two game series was separated by a rough loss. The Cyclones lost 6-2 to the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, which was Military Appreciation Night at US Bank Arena.
