A few days have passed since Editor Lindsay Wilson wrote her post on trading both Marian Gaborik and Jared Boll. Trade deadline, trade deadline, trade deadline, that is all we have been hearing about lately. The Columbus Blue Jackets have been somewhat quiet on the trade talk front, at least compared to teams like the Buffalo Sabres.
Adding another component to the Blue Jackets may be on the minds of a lot of fans, but so is keeping the roster the same since it seems to be working quite well lately. The start of the season was rough for Columbus, but they have bounced back and are starting to make some headway in the Metropolitan division standings. If the Blue Jackets can be 75% as good as they were during their 8 game win streak, they should be able to clinch a playoff spot, obviously 100% would be far more preferable though.
I think most fans can agree that if Columbus were to add another player to the roster, then someone needs to be on their way out. I think we can also agree that there has been a call to trade Gaborik, especially seeing as the Jackets have been winning without him. Playing in only 18 games this season, Gaborik has scored 5 goals, and added 7 assists for 12 points – not stats you would write home to your mother about if your name was in fact Marian Gaborik.
Onto the other option Miss Wilson put forth, Jared Boll. Like Gaborik, Boll has been plagued with injury this season and hasn’t been able to punch too many people in the face. Right away I would like to point out that Jarmo Kekalainen just gave Boll a contract extension, 3 more years (2016-17) at $1.7 million per year – which seemed to be pleasing to most fans. This season he has played in 21 games and scored 1 goal, but we all know that isn’t why he is on the team.
So, put yourself in Jarmo’s shoes, if you had to chose between these two players, who would you trade away to help make your team better for the playoffs?
