Ohio State

Expectations were not very high for Ohio State this past weekend when they traveled to Minnesota to take on the #1 ranked college hockey program in the nation. Ohio State performed better than expected in the Hockey City Classic, surrendering only one goal in a 1-0 loss. Ohio State followed that up with a 4-2 loss on Saturday. The Buckeyes got out to a 2-0 lead, but Minnesota stormed back with four unanswered goals. Both games were great performances, but Ohio State came up just a bit short against an outstanding opponent.

Lake Erie Monsters

Lake Erie’s slump continued this past weekend with two losses to the Iowa Wild; the losing streak now sits at five games. Iowa scored three times on the power play Friday, which put them on the way to a 6-1 win over the Monsters. Iowa followed that up with a 1-0 win on Saturday. The Monsters have a chance to break the streak tonight when they finally return home for a game against the Rochester Americans. The Monsters will then be at home again this Saturday against the Hamilton Bulldogs, before traveling up to Toronto on Sunday to take on the Marlies. Finally on Tuesday they will be in Utica, New York for a match up with the Utica Comets.

Toledo Walleye

Just a two game weekend for the Toledo Walleye, who had a quick road trip to Reading to take on the Royals. The Walleye lost both games, with a 5-2 loss on Friday and a 5-4 loss on Saturday. Toledo scored three unanswered goals on Saturday, but the potential come from behind win fell short. Toledo had the remainder of the week off. This weekend will be jam packed however, with home games against the Wheeling Nailers, Reading Royals, and Greenville Road Warriors on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Cincinnati Cyclones

The Cincinnati Cyclones good fortunes came to an end last week. First the Elmira Jackals edged the Cyclones out with a 5-4 win. Cinci followed that up with 4-1 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays. The two losses are just a minor speed bump in what has been a great season for Cincinnati. The Cyclones had the weekend off, and will not play again until this Saturday and Sunday with a home and home with the Wheeling Nailers. Cincinnati will be back at US Bank Arena Wednesday to take on the Reading Royals.
