Cannonballs is a daily series where we will gather up links to other interesting stories from the Columbus Blue Jackets blogosphere, as well as general NHL and hockey news. While we strive to bring you the best coverage of the Columbus Blue Jackets here at the Union and Blue, there are several other CBJ blogs that do a great job as well. Columbus Blue Jackets
Recaps of last night’s Columbus Blue Jackets @ Colorado Avalanche game:
Backup Goalies Meeting Challenge: While Sergei Bobrovsky practicing with the team is a welcoming sight, there is no rush to get him back into the lineup until he is 100% good to go. Fortunately for the Jackets, both Curtis McElhinney and Mike McKenna have been giving Columbus a chance to win. While they are no replacement for the former Vezina winner, they have both proven they are capable backups and have prevented the Blue Jackets from entering a tailspin due to losing their starting goaltender. Dion Phaneuf Signs Big Extension On the Eve of New Years / Winter Classic: While 24/7 spilled the beans on the Dion Phaneuf contract extension this past Saturday, the Maple Leafs and Phaneuf made it official today. Toronto and the star defenseman agreed to a 7 year, $49 million contract on New Years Eve. [ Editor In Leaf ]
What Happened to Rick Nash: It appears that Rangers fans are starting to grow impatient (Rangers fans inpatient? NO WAY!) with Rick Nash’s inability to put the puck into the net so far; something they are paying him $7.8 million annually to do. Blue Line Station points out that Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov have combined for 44 points this season to Nash’s 15. While the article points out that Nash has missed 17 games due to a concussion, Dubinsky has missed 6 games of his own. [ Blue Line Station ]
New Years Resolutions for Every Team: Bleacher Report has made New Years Resolutions for every NHL team. There’s for the Blue Jackets is very simple: Make the Playoffs in 2014. I think we can all agree that Blue Jackets fans would be overjoyed with that. Not to mention, with the Metropolitan Division being so weak this year, a playoff berth is still in the cards for the Jackets. [ Bleacher Report ]
