Columbus Blue Jackets at New Jersey Devils: Three Stars

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Columbus Blue Jackets won in dramatic fashion tonight at the Prudential Center in New Jersey against the Devils.  Artem Anisimov and Adam Henrique both scored in regulation.  During over time, there were a lot of chances, but no one scored.  Jaromir Jagr, Ryane Clowe, and Patrik Elias were all denied by Curtis McElhinney in the shootout.  Mark Letestu and Ryan Johansen were denied by Martin Brodeur, but Cam Atkinson went 5-hole and scored the game winner!  Let’s look at who I think the three stars of the game were:

Third Star: Ryan Murray

Murray plays like he has been in the league for 5 seasons already.  Example:

Second Star: Curtis McElhinney

McElhinney made 16 saves and had a .941 for the night.  This game makes his 6th win of the season.  He made some stellar stops and kept the Jackets in the game.  He was perfect in high pressure situations like the shootout.  All of that combined, of course he deserves a star!

First Star: Cam Atkinson

This was Cam’s 100th NHL game, and what a way to end it.  Cam scored the only goal during the shootout portion of the game.  He also had an assist and 2 shots on goal.  He was the difference-maker in this game.  What a great way to end the night.
