Tonight, the Jackets travel to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers in game one of a home and home series that is critical to positioning in the Metropolitan Division. Columbus is just two points behind the Flyers in the standings, and with the Metropolitan division so close, any inter-division match up is a must win.

The Flyers are coming off a huge 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, where they scored twice on the power play. Former Blue Jackets, Jakub Voracek had two goals, and Steve Mason made 24 saves in his 2nd victory in six games. The victory gave Philadelphia a split in a home and home series with Washington, which saw the Capitals win 5-4 in a shootout on Sunday. In that game, Mason allowed 4 goals on 33 shots. Much like the Jackets, Philadelphia has been inconsistent so far this season. December is off to a somewhat rough start, with three wins in eight games played.

Columbus is coming off a frustrating loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night, which saw the game pretty much turn into a “Ref-Show”. Questionable calls, a phantom goal tender interference, all the makings to get #Rule614 trending in Columbus.

The big story tonight will be Steve Mason squaring off against his former team. Nathan King had a great post detailing this yesterday, which you can read here. I will say that it’s unfortunate we will not be able to see Sergei Bobrovsky in net for the Jackets tonight.
