Nationwide Arena, Columbus, OH
The Columbus Blue Jackets are back in action tonight at Nationwide Arena against the Winnipeg Jets. The Jackets are coming off of a heart breaker of a loss to the St. Louis Blues, where Columbus squandered a 3-1 lead and gave up the game winning goal 22 seconds into overtime. The loss ended Todd Richards‘ 36-0-0 winning streak when the Jackets enter the third period with a lead. However, Coach Richards was overall pleased with his teams effort after the game, despite this being the second game in a row where they have allowed the opposition to crawl back into the game. Against the Rangers, the Jackets got off to a hot start, but allowed New York to chip away at their lead. That night, the Jackets were able to keep it together and ended up winning 4-2. Against the Blues, things did not go as well, and the Jackets lost in OT, 4-3.
The Jets are coming off a 6-4 loss on Saturday to the Dallas Stars. After coming back from a one goal deficit three times throughout the game, the Jets surrendered two goals at the end of the second period, and one more at the start of the third to seal the the deal. Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec was given the hook at the end of the second period, and backup Al Montoya came out to start the third. After one day of rest, tonight’s game against Columbus starts a string of five games in eight nights for the Jets, four of which are on the road.
