Columbus Blue Jackets vs Winnipeg Jets: Three Stars

Russell LaBounty-USA TODAY Sports

What a crazy game! Fights early and late in the first period, multiple injuries (one bloody), a no-goal call, some other questionable calls by the officials, and a frantic third period.

Third Star: R.J. Umberger

He scored, therefore he gets a star.

Second Star: Matt Calvert / Nick Foligno

These two get to share a star tonight because of their energy and physicality.  They both fought during the first period, and seemed to kick the players into gear for at least a little while.  Unfortunately it didn’t last long. The good news is that they both had assists and weren’t injured.

First Star: Fedor Tyutin

Tyutin was simultaneously called for hooking and hit in the face with a stick.  The stick left a pretty good gash in his face and he had to go get stitches, which meant that he missed a good chunk of time.  This happened with Dalton Prout also injured, so the Blue Jackets were down to only 4 D on the ice.

When he came back, he put on the gas and played hard.  Tyutin scored at 11:39 of the third period, bringing the game within 1 goal.  All the Jackets had to do was score one more and they would have gotten at least 1 point.  Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and the Jackets lost 3-2.
