Here at the Union and Blue, we are committed to covering the Columbus Blue Jackets and bringing you the latest news and opinions about the team. The Blue Jackets are not the only hockey team in Ohio and in the Ohio Hockey News Roundup we will provide a quick overview of the latest news in Ohio hockey. The primary focus will be the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL, the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, as well as any interesting news at the NCAA level.

Ohio State

There isn’t much news to report for the Ohio State section of the Roundup, as the Buckeyes are off until December 28th. They will take on Mercyhurst in a two game series in Columbus. The series will be their last non-conference match up for the year.

The Dispatch reported a few days ago that the Ohio State hockey program is going to try to have stronger ties with the Columbus Blue Jackets. R.J. Umberger already volunteers and supports his college program and Ohio State is slated to play a game against Michigan at Nationwide Arena on March 2nd.

‘I don’t know whether if early on (Ohio State and the Blue Jackets) saw each other as competition,’ Umberger said. ‘I know both have had attendance issues, but hockey certainly hadn’t grown into what it is now here. A rising tide raises all boats. It just takes people who want to make it work.’
