Ohio State vs M*chigan

When: Friday, November 29th, Ann Arbor, M*chigan and Monday, December 2nd, Columbus, Ohio,  7:00 PM

How to Watch: Big 10 Network

While The Game will have gain most of the attention across the nation and in Columbus this week, the Ohio State / M*chigan rivalry weekend will kick off tonight on the ice. Not only is this Ohio States first conference meeting, it is also coming on the inaugural day of Big 10 Conference hockey. Wisconsin and Minnesota will get things started on ESPNU at 5pm, and then Ohio State and M*chigan will follow at 7 pm on the Big 10 Network.

While the rivaly on the gridiron has decades of history behind it, Ohio State and M*chigan have not been rivals in the hockey arena. The Big 10 conference is new to the college hockey scene, and M*chigan is heavily favored against the Buckeyes. M*chigan’s main rival in hockey is actually M*chigan State, but in the future, Ohio State would like to change that.

The Wolverines come into tonight’s match up ranked #3 in the nation and have victories over other ranked programs like Boston College, UMASS-Lowell, New Hampshire, and Nebraska-Omaha.

Ryan Dzingel (Junior, F) leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 14 points. Also look for the “ATM line” of Alex Szczechura, Tanner Fritz, and Max McCormick to generate offense for Ohio State. [ SB Nation ]

Ohio State expects to have freshman starting goaltender Matt Tompkins back in net tonight (he missed the last two series due to a leg injury). Freshman Logan Davis served as a great backup in Tompkins’ absence and was even named a Big 10 star of the week, but Tompkins is the starter and gives the Buckeyes the best chance to beat M*chigan.

Tonight’s game is on Big 10 Network at 7:00 pm, so Jackets fans will want to set the DVR so they can watch after the Columbus vs Edmonton game is over. It will be an exciting game, and a great way to start Rivalry Weekend.
