The Boston Bruins won it in overtime on a breakaway from Milan Lucic. The Columbus Blue Jackets fought hard and had a great third period defense-wise. Here are my three stars of the evening.
Third Star: Brandon Dubinsky
2 shots, 2 PIM. Dubi did what he is best at tonight: being physical and being a pest. He gets into the heads of his opponents and bothers them just enough to throw their game off. An example from tonight is when he hit David Krejci as he was going into the boards. It was a clean hit by Dubi but the rest of the Boston Bruins were angry that it happened. I can’t say that this hit directly led to Blake Comeau‘s goal, but I also can’t say that it didn’t.
Second Star: Ryan Murray
Again, consistency is something the Blue Jackets are lacking, but not Ryan Murray. He shows up for every game ready to work. He saved the CBJ from a goal early in the first period and played well on the power play. It’s hard to believe he’s only 20 years old with maturity he shows on the ice.
First Star: Nick Foligno
1 goal, 3 shots. Nick scored the Columbus Blue Jackets second goal! He has been in and out of the line up recently due to the health of his newborn girl. As Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch stated on his podcast Cannon Fodder, Nick’s daughter was born with a heart defect. She needed surgery to fix it and the only doctor in the US that would do it was located in Boston.
Nick took the last few games off to be with his wife and family during and after the 7 hour surgery with the mindset that he would join the Blue Jackets in Boston. He has to be feeling pretty good right now with a goal after being out of the line up for a while.
Honorable Mention: Michael Chaput
I really like him as a player. He is getting NHL experience and even played on a line with Marian Gaborik during this game. He had 1 shot for the night.
