Here at the Union and Blue, we are committed to covering the Columbus Blue Jackets and bringing you the latest news and opinions about the team. The Blue Jackets are not the only hockey team in Ohio and in the Ohio Hockey News Roundup we will provide a quick overview of the latest news in Ohio hockey. The primary focus will be the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL, the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, as well as any interesting news at the NCAA level.
Lake Erie Monsters
The biggest issue that the Monsters have faced so far this season is their schedule. Instead of a steady stream of games, they have played once or twice on the weekend and then have had several days off. This was the case once again, when they had the entire week off after the Abbotsford series, only to have one game against Grand Rapids on Friday. Lake Erie is now off until Thursday, when they face the Utica Comets for the first time. The AHL scheduling makes it easier for NHL call ups to occur during the week, but it does make it difficult for the teams to get some consistency with their routine. The Monsters dropped their lone game against Grand Rapids 6-4, and are now 4th in the North Division. Fortunately for the Monsters, they have two games coming up against the winless Utica Comets.
