Columbus Blue Jackets vs Anaheim Ducks - Pre-Game Report

Columbus Blue Jackets vs Anaheim Ducks

Where: Nationwide Arena

When: Sunday, October 27, 2013 @ 6PM

Broadcast Information: Fox Sports Ohio, 97.1 The Fan

The Jackets winning streak (and yes, we can officially call it that) began with a win over Vancouver in a Sunday evening game. Since that victory, the CBJ have had two dominating victories over the New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs. Today’s game against Anaheim marks their 4th game in seven days, but after this they get some rest with their next match up coming on Friday against Pittsburgh.

Fatigue is always a concern when playing several games in a short period of time, but the Jackets finished strong against Toronto and showed very few signs of slowing down. However, the CBJ go into today’s game down Boone Jenner, who is out due to what is currently being deemed a lower body injury. Jenner has been an early surprise for the Jackets (2G both on the PP, 12.5 S%), and his presence will be missed in the lineup.

The Ducks are finishing up a busy week as well; this will be their 5th game in seven days. They have split the previous 4 games, with wins over Dallas and Ottawa, and losses at the hands of Montreal and Toronto. Anaheim is off to a great start this season and currently sit at 8-3-0. Looking at the stats, it is clear the Ducks have been playing outstanding hockey. They currently have the 4th best PDO in the NHL (1033), they are averaging the second most shots per game (35.1), and are averaging a 7th best 3.03 goals per game. For comparison, the Jackets are averaging 31.8 shots per game (6th), and 2.70 goals per game (19th.

Columbus played some of their best hockey of the season during the 3rd period of the Toronto game. In the final minutes, the Jackets were holding on to a 3-2 lead and the Maple Leafs were getting chances. Five minutes later, the Jackets were celebrating a 5-2 victory. Columbus hopes to close out the opening month of the 2013-14 season with a victory over a very talented Anaheim team.
