New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets – October 22, 2013 7PM
Third Star – James Wisniewski
Wiz is finally bouncing back from his slump in the first 8 games. He showed up for the morning skate and was sent home to rest. At game time, Todd Richards decided that he was well enough to play, and he made the right decision. Even though he had a stomach bug and vomited twice in the ice, he still ended up with 1 goal and 2 assists. In the third period, he shot from the blue line and after a deflection off a Devils defenseman, he scored.
Second Star – Sergei Bobrovsky
Bob got his job done. He stopped 24 of 25 shots and made some great saves. If the Jackets win, Bob will always be a star for me. Yes, he let one in, but that was it. His back up, Curtis McElhinney, had a good game on Sunday which is a motivator for Bob to be better. He has been the back up goalie before and he doesn’t want to go back.
First Star – Cam Atkinson
Cam was everywhere on the ice last night. His speed is his second best attribute. His best attribute? His effort. Cam doesn’t give up on the team and he always plays through the last second of the game. Towards the end of the second period, he found the puck and scored with a nice backhand. With 3 shots on goal and a +2, Cam deserves the first star
Notable exception – Brandon Dubinsky
I am not including him due to the fight that he instigated. After a perfectly clean hit, he turned around and appeared to attempt to break Anton Volchenkov‘s neck. He punched him in the head while Volchenkov was on the ice and left two red fingernail scratch marks on his head. In my opinion, that was stupid. Dubinsky is one of the Blue Jacket’s most dynamic players, and taking a risk of injury or suspension for a clean hit is reckless.
