Columbus Blue Jackets vs Washington Capitals

Where: Verizon Center, Washington DC

When: Saturday October 19, 2013 @ 7:00 PM

Broadcast Information: Fox Sports Ohio, 97.1 The Fan

The Capitals come into today’s game at 2-5-0, following a 2-0 loss on Wednesday to the New York Rangers. The Jackets have a similar record (2-4-0), and are also coming into today’s game following a disappointing loss. Both teams are looking to right their respective ships, and the Blue Jackets would like to end their losing streak at 3 games.

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Marion Gaborik hopes to play today, but it appears we will not know for sure until closer to game time. Gaborik would be a much needed addition to the Jackets offense and would hopefully reunite the successful top line of Gaborik, Dubinsky, and Atkinson. In addition, Coach Todd Richards has not decided on whether Dalton Prout will dress or once again take a seat in the press box.

The Capitals have been off to a slow start so far, and Coach Adam Oates has shifted some of the lines around, according to the Washington Post. One shift that is a particular interest to the Jackets is that Martin Erat will be getting more ice time on the 2nd line. A former Nashville Predator, Erat has had the Jackets number in the past, and has had success against them.

The projected starters in net are Sergei Bobrovsky for the Blue Jackets and Braden Holtby for the Washington Capitals. Holtby has been off to a rough start in 2013; 1-4-0, 3.28 GAA, .889 SV%. Bobrovsky has not been the dominating force in net he was last season, but he comes into today’s game with a 2.49 GAA and .921 SV%. According to Fox Sports Ohio’s broadcast on Thursday, Coach Richards had stated that Curtis McElhinney could start one of the games this weekend to give Bobrovsky some rest.
