On the night of October 10th, Patrick Kaleta made an illegal check to the head on Jack Johnson of the Columbus Blue Jackets – I feel bad for Brendan Shanahan, he has crappy speech writers. All joking aside, Kaleta did in fact target the head of Johnson while delivering his check. Fortunately, Johnson was not hurt during the check and continued to play the rest of the game. Immedietly after the hitΒ Jared Boll did come to the aide of his teammate and fought Kaleta.
Kaleta finally had a sit down with the department of player safety yesterday to which the repeat offender got some not so surprising news. He was suspended for ten games, two of which he has already sat out. He will be able to return to the Sabres line-up on their first game in November, which is on the 2nd against the Ducks.
As noted, Jack Johnson was not hurt on the play, which was a big plus for the Blue Jackets, and one would think would of helped Kaleta not receive too many games. The only problem for Kaleta, this is not even close to his first time being fined or suspended for an illegal check like this one. According to Too Many Men On The Site, Kaleta has been suspended 3 times previously, since 2009.
So, after watching the video, and seeing the hit one more time, please take a moment to participate in the poll below…
