What If...The Jackets Signed Vinny Prospal?

Just about everyone absolutely loved Vinny Prospal, including myself. There were a lot of people upset with Jarmo and JD for not signing him in the offseason. To be honest, I agreed with not signing Vinny. With the direction this organization is heading, it didn’t really make sense.

However, with Matt Calvert going out and requiring surgery, there has been no better time to talk about signing Prospal. Vinny was the leading scorer for the Blue Jackets last year with 12 goals and 18 assists in the shortened season. For the short term, I feel that Vinny would make this team better.

Ok back to the serious talks. It makes sense to me to bring in someone who has proven success at the NHL level compared to a Springfield kid who hardly has any experience. Boone Jenner will also be seeing more ice time since Calvert will be out of the line-up. It could be a good time for our other young guys Cam, and Ryan Johansen to step it up as well.

Having Vinny on this team would not be a long term thing. we could sign Vinny to a one year deal, give him the respect he deserves.  Seeing as he was a fan favorite I think it would make games more entertaining too. Besides who didn’t love #ProspalPointingatThings, that was a personal favorite.

The biggest issues with a potential Vinny signing would be age, Prospal is almost 40. The other big thing is how is his condition? Has he just been sitting at home watching hockey? Or has he been practicing and training for a potential return to the NHL? I feel that with Matt Calvert out, it makes sense to take a chance on signing our leading scorer from last year.

Is Vinny too old? What do you think? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts!
