The Columbus Blue Jackets season has arrived. Game day is finally here! Tonight is not only the first game for Columbus but also the first chance to #DefendNWA and get the home crowd excited for this season (even more than they already are).
The Calgary Flames come into town tonight, and will be playing in their second game of the season. They played in DC last night against the Washington Capitals, losing 5-4 in a shootout. They had quite a first period though, scoring three goals to take the lead early. This just goes to show that no team in this league is to be taken lightly. They may be in the midst of a rebuild but they are still playing for the same reason that every team is, a chance to hoist up the Stanley Cup.
Last season the Flames had a record of 19-25-4, which equates to 42 points, and they ended the season in 13th in the Western Conference. The Flames and the Blue Jackets met three times last season, and Columbus won two, and lost once in overtime. All three games were high scoring contests, 5-1 (CBJ W), 4-3 (CGY OTW), and 6-4 (CBJ W).
Mark Letestu, Vinny Prospal, and R.J. Umberger each tallied 4 points and led the way against the Flames last season. Letestu and Prospal both had two goals and two assists, and Uberger scored once, and had three assists in the three games facing the Flames.
This is the first of two meetings this season, the second game against the Flames is on Wednesday, November 20th, in Calgary.
The game is scheduled for 7:00 pm tonight, but I am sure puck drop won’t occur until at least 7:20 pm because of the start of the season theatrics. The game can be seen on Fox Sports Ohio. Make sure to check out TiqIq.com for tickets to tonights game.
GO BLUE JACKETS!!!
