Last season the Columbus Blue Jackets opened up their regular season in Nashville against the Predators. The day was January 19th, 2013, obviously later in the year due to the lengthy lockout.
The Blue Jackets won the game by a final score of 3-2, a shootout was needed to decide to the game though. The Predators scored just 39 seconds into the game, a wrist shot by Martin Erat. Late in the first period though, Nick Foligno scored on the power play, and it was the first goal of the Blue Jackets 2012-2013 season.
Hopefully tonight against the Flames the Jackets will not let a goal in within the first minute. I don’t think that Foligno will mind scoring the first Blue Jackets goal of the 2013-2014 campaign though. He will be playing on a line with R.J. Umberger and Derek Mackenzie as the center, according to BlueJackets.NHL.com.
The other three lines are as follows: Jenner-Dubinsky-Gaborik, Letestu-Anisimov-Comeau, and Calvert-Johansen-Atkinson, also according to BlueJackets.NHL.com.
Scoring was a concern last year, but front office made some changes to the offense, more like additions. One addition will unfortunately not been seen for quite a few months, as Horton is still recovering from surgery. Marian Gaborik will be sporting the union blue all season long though, and his scoring touch will be a huge help on the scoreboard.
You can’t forget about Mark Letestu either, he was the leading scorer for the Blue Jackers last season, he netted 13 goals. Followed by Anisimov with 11 goals, Calvert with 9 goals, and Atkinson with 9 goals as well.
Tonight the Blue jackets will look to flex their new scoring muscle and extinguish the Flames (sorry had to say it). Who will be the one to light the lamp at Nationwide Arena first? Your guess is as good as mine. My Pick is Brandon Dubinsky.
What about you?
