‘Twas the night before the opener, when all through the city
All the fans were stirring, and twitter was getting witty
If I was creative enough, I could finish the poem. But alas, it would take me a week. Instead, I’ll give you my predictions for what I believe will happen tomorrow night at the Columbus Blue Jackets 2013-2014 season opener.
First, let’s start with the fans. There will be a sell out crowd; standing room only. The noise level will rival that of the last game of the 2012-2013 season. The glowing faces of the fans will be as bright as the lights on the ice. The sea of Union Blue will intimidate any Calgary Flames fan that dares to step foot in the arena.
There will be some familiar faces in the crowd. The Arch City Army will be in section 227, chanting and cheering the Blue Jackets to victory. The Jacket Backers will be manning their membership table behind section 116, recruiting as many fans as they can to fill the buses on trips to the other NHL arenas.
Everyone will be looking forward to the performance from Dancing Kevin during a media time out. My guess for what he will have painted on his (shaved) belly? “#DefendNWA.” Of course, no night in the CBJ arena is complete without the “Pitza Song” and an appearance from Stinger and his Gatling Gun.
Onto the action on the ice. The starters will be Marian Gaborik, Brandon Dubinsky, Boone Jenner, James Wisniewski, Ryan Murray, and of course, Sergei Bobrovsky. After LEO Welsh sings the Star Spangled Banner and O Canada, and Jack Nicklaus drops the ceremonial puck, Dubinsky will take the faceoff and the Jackets are off!
7 minutes into the game, BOOM. Gaborik scores! And Boone gets the assist! The crowd goes INSANE! People are dancing, players are celebrating. It’s madness!
I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. My excitement grows exponentially by the minute and I can’t wait to see everyone at the cannon during the first intermission. GO JACKETS!
