We all knew that coming into this season the defensive situation would start to get dicey once training camp and preseason started for the Columbus Blue Jackets. A few months ago during the offseason Ryan Murray was cleared to play, and then Dalton Prout had abdominal surgery and was questionable for the start of the season. And of course, Prout returns ahead of schedule and Murray is playing like he deserves to be in the NHL. What more could you want out of this offseason?
Too many possible combinations exist to even fathom. As mentioned in my previous post the Blue Jackets have several options to consider, and can always change things up as the season moves on. Murray may not make the opening squad to start the regular season but I am sure he would be one of the first to consider when deciding on which player to call up. Cody Goloubef has also seen some time with Columbus in the past and could also be on the list of players who could earn a roster spot. Ilari Melart has also had his moments during the preseason, and would be a BIG asset on the ice. Like I said, there are plenty of options available.
Right now on BlueJackets.NHL.com there are ten defenseman on the roster list, and that does not include Ryan Murray. Trying to whittle the list down to six defenseman will be quite a task for JD, Jarmo, and Coach Richards. Right now though it is up to you to step into their shoes and…
