Today, September 5th, marks the first day of hockey in September. It may not be the NHL, or the AHL, but it is hockey nonetheless. The Traverse City Tournament gets underway today, an annual prospects tournament held by the Detroit Red Wings. The defending champs of the tourney are the Buffalo Sabres in 2011, due to the lockout last season there was no tournament in 2012. Find out more info about the tournament here.
The Columbus Blue Jackets prospects open up the tournament today against the defending champs, the Buffalo Sabres at 4 o’clock this afternoon. The Sabres were recipients of unfortunate news regarding the tournament, their top prospect, Mikhail Grigorenko, is not eligible to play due to too many games in the NHL last season.

I also want to pass on some good news, a local buffalo radio station will be broadcasting a play-by-play of the Buffalo Sabres games. This means that today at 4 o’clock you could listen to the Blue Jackets prospects take on the Sabres prospects. It will be broadcasted on 1520 AM WWKB (Buffalo). If you have a smart phone or tablet you can download a radio app (TuneIn Radio) that has AM capabilities. You could also try to find it on the Internet, if you know of a good site to listen to AM radio. [SabreNoise]
