Bill Zito, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be joining the ranks of the Blue Jackets front office as an Assistant General Manager. The team announced the news on BlueJackets.NHL.com on Monday afternoon via Jarmo Kekalainen. Zito built Acme World Sports, a successful sports agency, from the ground up, and represented clients like Tim Thomas, Antti Niemi, Kimmo Timonen, and Brian Rafalski.
“Bill Zito is an astute businessman who understands all facets of our game and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Columbus Blue Jackets,” said Kekalainen.
“We’ve been good friends for a long time,” Zito told BlueJackets.com. “(Kekalainen) is a brilliant man and a great person, and one of the few people I would leave (the agency) to learn from and to serve. I can’t say enough about his character, his work ethic and his kindness as a human being. That is a no-brainer for me to be associated with him. With everybody here, it’s a special group.
“That’s something you can tell from the outside — these guys get it.”
From what I have read on Bill Zito, he is the perfect person to be Kekalainen’s right hand man. Someone who has an eye for talent, and not just the talent right in front of everyone, the hidden talents, much like Kekalainen’s draft expertise. Zito will be a very valuable piece in the Columbus Blue Jackets management team, and will further help guide the team to success for years to come.
