With the 2014 Winter Olympics coming up in February, countries have started their roster selection process for the tournament in Sochi. The Columbus Blue Jackets will be represented heavily for Russia, Columbus has four players named to the preliminary roster.
Fedor Tyutin, who had 4 goals and 18 assists in the shortened season, was named to the roster. He has a great shot at making the roster. He is a physical shut down defender and as a coach you have to love that. Tyutin also has a massive slapshot that can cause havoc for goalkeepers. For him to make the team he must have a great camp and show the coaches what we as Jackets fans know he can do.
Also making the roster is Tyutin’s defensive partner, Nikita Nikitin. I don’t think he has a great chance to make the roster. At times during last season Nikitin seemed lost on the ice leading to various two on one situations. However, if he has a great camp, I think he can sneak into the final roster.
Now for the two players who I think are definitely going to make the final roster. Artem Anisimov, who had 11 goals and 7 assist in the shortened season. He also missed 13 games this season most, coming from the head injury suffered in Detroit. Anisimov is the dynamic player who makes things happen. He may not score all the goals but he can definitely make them happen. I believe he will be a 3rd line player for the Russian team.
Finally we have the man himself… none other than Sergei Bobrovsky. The Vezina winning goalie who had a 21-11-6 record with a 2.00 goals against average and a save percentage of .932. Some people have Semyon Varlamov as the starter. However when the camp has come to a close I believe Bob will be named the starter, but I am absolutely sure that Sergei Bobrovsky will make the final squad for the Russian team.
