With the 19th overall pick the Blue Jackets selected Kerby Rychel, left wing from the Windsor Spitfires. Here is a quick look at his stats and what he adds to the Blue Jackets:

Stats:

40 goals

47 assists

87 points

68 games played

CBJ Today Blog had this to say about Rychel;

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Kerby Rychel made a name for himself by getting under opponents’ skin and unnerving players in the OHL playoffs. Scouts like his ability to score big goals while also playing his role to a “T,” and his north-south style should be a good fit with what Jarmo Kekalainen and the Blue Jackets are trying to build.

During an interview with the media at the Draft, Rychel describes his style of play;

A lot of people don’t really know but I had eight or nine fights last year. I think I’m a gritty guy and obviously at the next level there’s not too many pure goal scorers, so I think I’m going to need to kill penalties, work hard, block shots and hopefully score some goals too.

Kerby Rychel will fit perfectly into the Blue Jackets line-up and style of play. This kid can do everything, score goals, make plays, get into the dirty areas, fight and did you read the quote above, what a statement. I can’t wait to see Rychel in a Blue Jackets uniform, he will be a solid player for the future. Bravo Jarmo!
