Columbus Blue Jackets 14th Overall Pick: Alexander Wennberg

The Number 14 overall pick saw the Blue Jackets picking up Alexander Wennberg, center from Sweden. Lets take a quick look at some of his stats and what his game is all about:

14 goals

18 assists

32 points

46 games played

CBJ Today Blog commented on Wennberg;

He played 46 games for Djurgarden last season and was second among all junior-age players with 14 goals. He’s slated to play for Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League this coming season, where Blue Jackets prospect Anton Forsberg is also on the roster.

NBC Sports Network says this about Wennberg’s playing style;

He’s a smart and determined player on the ice with plenty of offensive upside. He’s the type of guy that could end up scoring goals in a lot of different ways and also set up others when the situation calls for it. He marries that with sound defensive play. Once he completes his goal of getting stronger and gets some NHL experience, he could serve as a nice addition to any team.

Here is a direct quote from Wennberg on being selected by Columbus;

“I had a lot of talks with the Blue Jackets and I felt like they were a great team for me,” said Wennberg after he was drafted. “I’m very satisfied right now.”

I think this is a great pick up for the Blue Jackets, Jarmo certainly went for offense with Wennberg. Somewhat of a scoring threat, but I feel that his true strength will be making his teammates better. Nothing but good things said about him, and I look forward to seeing him in a Columbus Blue Jackets jersey soon.
