Springfield Falcons Vs the Connecticut Whale.
Note—-Springfield and Connecticut have somewhat of a history going into the first of 12 games this season. Two Whale players return back to their 2011-2012 home tonight. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, JAM, led Connecticut last season with 64 points and 40 assists, and currently leads the Falcons with eight points and five assists. JAM collected 19 points (6g-13a) in 12 games with Connecticut against Springfield last year during his rookie campaign. Tim Erixon, then signed with the Rangers, tied for the “D” lead with 33 points and topped all Whale defensemen with 30 assists last year.
And as might be hoped, Tim Erixon scored the first goal of the game. The assist was by, you guessed it, JAM. This is the eighth game this year where the Falcons have had the first score of the game. That is 8 games out of 9 games YTD. JAM had the game’s first penalty, not sure if it had to do with his being with the Whale last year. But, JAM had the 2nd goal with an assist by Erixon. Then, Tim Erixon had an assist on the 3rd goal which was by Drazenovic. In the first period, the play by play called JAM’s name about every other minute. Maybe sitting him at the end of the last game kinda jacked him up.
Ryan Johansen scored 2 goals in the 2nd period, becoming the first Falcon to score more than once in a game. The first was a deflection, the 2nd was a feed. The game then got a little out of hand as Springfield just was “spot on”. I mean when you score 10 goals, you are having a good nite. From the ex-Whale players Tim Exixon had 1 goal and 3 assists and was a + 6 and was the first star of the game, JAM 1 goal and 2 assists. It is a little like “in your face” Whale, from the ex-players. The stat sheet is loaded to say the least.
