Lockout Day 40 - Observations on Springfield Prospects

It’s early, I get it Springfield is only 4 games into the season, but some thoughts to date.

Guess who is the Falcons leader in shots on goal?  Right, you guessed it from the picture above Mr John Moore. 17 SOG in 4 games. Anyone thinking Clark Kent is coming out of his phone booth? And who is tied for second? Mr Tim Erixon, who could be considered the newest Blue Jacket prospect with 12SOG. He is tied with JAM who is the Springfield points leader with 6 [2G-4A] Matt Calvert, comes in 3rd at 10 SOG.

Also very promising is the fact that with 2 goals in 4 games, Ryan Johansen is in a 2 way tie for the goals lead. Why is this promising? In his last season in Juniors with the Portland Winterhawks, Ryan had 40 goals and 52 assists. Last year with Columbus he played out of his normal position much of the year and in his first NHL season of 62 games he had 9G and 12 assists. Hopefully playing his normal ceter position and on a great scoring line, he’ll get more “in tune” with his old game.

Michael Chaput is starting a little slow with only 1 SOG, but it is his first pro season and I believe he is playing on the 4th line. So he probably is where he should be as far as development.

I hope you read A Love Letter…from a Jilted Girlfriend from Allison , it was published in the HUB. If you know her, and a lot of people do, you can appreciate this insight into hockey as it feels to her and to many others. If you do not know her and obviously a lot of people do not, she used to write a blog “Heart of a Jacket” and could be counted on to go to the feelings and emotions of hockey, and she has not changed. She defiantly influenced me by her example of always being positive.  Be sure and read it if you have not.[ PS-- she attended a Falcons game. ]
