I had the opportuntiy over the weekend to attend Cannon Fest, an off-season gathering of Blue Jacket writers, bloggers, Tweeters, and fans….which it now turns out Iam the last person to write about. This was the second year for the event, which by all accounts eclipsed the already tremendous attendance and excitement of last year. This year’s Cannon Fest was attended by a couple hundred of the aforementioned CBJ super-fans, stuffing the bar area of the Grandview Buffalo Wild Wings with hockey sweaters and other Union Blue clothing items….which I must say was a sight for sore eyes this August.
The highlights of the event (pun intended) were a couple of highlight videos produced by a man called Skraut, which you can watch and enjoy using these links:
There was a charity raffle supporting Hockey Beats Down Breast Cancer — unfortunately the neon CBJ beer sign on which I went all-in went home with another lucky fan — there were cheers of “Let’s go, Jack-ets!,” and there was a great time had by all. Best of all was the chance to meet fellow Jacket fans, all who love the team tremendously, and who seemed to all really enjoy each other. There is a lot of hockey excitement in Columbus, and there are a lot of great hockey followers who are proud of the little community we’ve built. We talked about reading each other’s work, we talked about checking out each other’s sites, we followed each other on Twitter….and, of course, we talked about how Steve Mason needs to access his un-crazy side to give us a chance at the playoffs this year.
So for those who attended Cannon Fest and made it such a blast (pun intended…ouch!), thank you. And for those who didn’t, I hope to see you next year. If the excitement continues to build, we’ll need a bigger boat.
