Well, what are we supposed to do with ourselves in the off-season? There’s only so much baseball I’m gonna watch. I just sit and count the hours until hockey season. There’s always something to write about, I’m not saying that. And we just had a Mock Draft here at FanSided. That’s really how all this started…
I’m not going to tell you my personal conversations or anything, but Kristina over at Cardiac Cane and I were discussing this Mock Draft and NHL teams in general. Heh-heh…it was nothing, you know…we were just talking and all. I may have sent her a picture of Antoine Vermette because we appreciate good talent.
Yes…nothing like taking a long, lingering look at talent. Especially when he’s got his shirt off.
So, the Fantasy Draft was created.
This is a TRUE Fantasy Draft. Picks from the NHL and AHL. (And the stick-handling is left to the imagination).
Here are some guidelines:
I will be managing the Western Conference and coaching my team, The Puma City King Snakes, while Kristina runs the Eastern Conference and her own team, The Cougartown Gamecocks. Each conference will have five teams. Recruitment starts now…and space is first come, first served. Leave your name, teams name and the conference you wish to represent in the comment section to be a coach in the Five Hole Fantasy Draft.
Coaches will have alternating picks until each team has 20 skaters, 2 goalies and 8 Ice Men. I’ll have the first pick, then Kristina and then so on in the order of the reserved seats, so to speak. Selections will be made from either the NHL or AHL. Once rosters are complete, coaches will decide their lines. These units will be played during the 2011-2012 season on a weekly basis (Monday through Sunday).
Forwards will earn points based on goals and assists while defensemen get credit for penalty kills and penalty minutes. Goalies will be tracked by shots on goal and saves.
So…ready to be swept up by a true Fantasy Draft?
